Random Good Finds: Mayflower Park

One time we were camping at this cute little random find: Mayflower Park.  It was a pit stop to break up a nine hour drive.  We all had zero expectations since it was a tiny regional park in a town we had not heard of: Blythe.  We did not stumble upon it; of course I had researched up and down the Colorado River trying to find the best stopping point. This is where my middle daughter, River, learned how to ride her bike without training wheels.  This was where I heard the best concert of my life: An old man, long white beard, long white hair, sitting by himself around his campfire strumming his old beat up guitar.  Johnny Cash voice, Willie Nelson look. Hands down, the best concert I have ever been to. I wrote him a fan-girl letter expressing my admiration.   [insert picture of letter here]

This park is where Michael, Mum and I were all sitting out staring at the stars.  Attempting to identify them.  We agreed that,
“That one there is a dipper for sure, but big dipper or little dipper?” Couldn’t quite tell.  Later that night while walking through the fields, we rounded a bend and all stopped dead in our tracks and said, “WHOOOOAAAAAAAAAA!!!”  Because you KNOW when you see the Big Dipper.  It is no longer a debate.  This thing was from the bottom of the earth to the top of the sky.  Like the Empire State Building, like the Eiffel Tower. Incomprehensible unless you’ve experienced it first hand.
